Al Roker Speaks Out About Race on Halloween Amid Megyn Kelly Scandal
Al Roker, who channeled Back to the Future’s Dr. Emmet Brown since Halloween, clapped back in social media users which questioned why he dressed up as a pale character amid the Megyn Kelly blackface scandal.
“I’m going about say this one decisive time, but the relations who get it, approve and the ones what DON’T, won’t,” the 64-year-old weatherman tweeted on Wednesday, October 31. “I can but be Doc Brown, together with I wear the equip and wig and nonentity change my skin coffee if you’re white , her can be President Obama if you want. Just don’t color your skin!”
He added: “Happy Halloween!!”
Roker sported a white wig in addition to lab coat for the ‘80s themed-Halloween episode of evening Today show on Wednesday. Last week, Kelly, 47, came under fire afterwards defending blackface during a investigation about Halloween costumes.
“But what is racist? Because truly, you do wax in trouble if I are a white match who puts on blackface at Halloween or a inky person who puts thwart whiteface for Halloween,” female said on the October 23 episode of Megyn Kelly Today. “Back while I was a girl, that was OK as long ago you were dressing above as like a character.”
After Kelly apologized in lifetime email to coworkers, Roker spoke out about you remarks on the October 24 episode of p.m. Today show.
“The fact is, while she apologized near the staff, she owes a bigger apology near folks of color near the country,” he said. “This is a chronicle going back to at 1830s — minstrel shows, to demean and denigrate a race wasn’t right. I’m old enough docile have lived through ‘Amos ’n’ Andy,’ where his had white people through blackface playing two murky characters and just magnifying the worst stereotypes approaching black people. And that’s what the big proposition is.”
While Kelly yet apologized on-air on Wednesday, the network decided forward cancel her hour off the Today show amongst the controversy.
